Astar Network (formerly, Plasm) is Japan’s first public blockchain that aims to solve the interoperability and scalability problems, which are major issues faced by public blockchains. These issues can be solved by connecting to Polkadot, which integrates different blockchains. (Shiden exhibits similar features as Astar and connects to Kusama, which is a sister chain of Polkadot). Ethereum Virtual Machine is also supported and therefore, smart contracts deployed on Ethereum can be used on Astar Network and Shiden Network.
In January this year, it succeeded for the first time in history to connect to Polkadot’s testnet. It has also previously received a total of seven grants from the Polkadot development organization, which is the most that has ever been given in the Polkadot ecosystem. It also features great token distribution (i.e. about 6.5 billion yen worth of ETH have been locked in a smart contract). The company is also funded by world-renowned investors such as Binance, OKEx, Huobi, Fenbushi, and HashKey.
