NEO is an open source blockchain decentralized application platform founded by Da HongFei and Erik Zhang in 2014.
-What is the NEO platform?
NEO is a virtual currency that was created in 2015 based in China, also known as the Chinese version of Ethereum. It has gained popularity as a platform-type currency that allows the implementation of dApps, token issuance, and smart contracts.
-NEP-5
The interface standard that tokens issued on the NEO platform comply with is called "NEP-5 (Neo Enhancement Proposals 5)", and various NEP-5 tokens have been issued so far. The ONT (Ontology) introduced earlier is also a NEP-5 token.
Ever since listing on major exchanges such as Poloniex and Bittrex in October 2016, NEO has been actively traded, and as of November 2020, its market capitalization ranks 21st among all virtual currencies.
NEO, often referred to as the "Chinese version of Ethereum," has its own platform for dApps, token issuance, and smart contract implementation, just like Ethereum.
The crucial difference between the two, lies in the future vision they both aim to achieve.
While Ethereum's goal is to be a platform for all dApps based on blockchain technology, also known as the "world computer," NEO aims to build its own economic zone, called the "smart economy".
